How to get films into schools legally? This year’s Cinema Off School conference will bring the answer
This year’s Cinema Off School conference at the Zlín Film Festival will once again offer a rich programme full of audiovisual reflection. The seventh edition of the conference will focus on a pressing topic – the availability of films in schools and for educational needs.
On Sunday, 29 May 2022, you can look forward to the results of sociological research by the team led by film historian Tereza Czesana Dvořáková, who investigated the extent to which film education is represented in primary and secondary schools. Sociologist Petra Matúšová and media analyst Jakub Šiler also participated in the project.
The Human Rights One World at Schools educational programme, which provides teachers with documentary films and teaching methodology, will also be present. Or film didactician Jiří Forejt, who is involved in the forthcoming Film and Audiovisual Education course at FAMU in Prague, will introduce the European streaming and educational platform CinED and answer questions such as what curatorial approach to film selection.
It will also be possible to draw inspiration from the international guests of the conference. Among the foreign platforms we will present, among others, Koulukino from Finland, Bundesverband für Jugend und Film from Germany, Danish Film Institute‘s database or the Polish Nowe Horyzonty Edukacji Filmowej. Among the guests we will welcome Claus Hjorth (DFI), Kamila Tomkiel-Skowrońska (NHEF) or Paul Reeve (online) from the charity Into Film. More than half of UK schools are already involved in this audiovisual education project. Also at the festival, the Association for Film and Audiovisual Education will once again present the Boris Jachnin Award for long-term contribution to the field of film education.
