Strengthening of film/audiovisual education in Czech Republic
The project “Strengthening the field of film/audiovisual education in the Czech Republic” supported by EEA/Norway 2014-2021 funds focuses on strengthening the field in the Czech Republic and includes several specific activities:
- Mapping the teaching conditions of F/AV education in the Czech Republic (major sociological research)
- Monitoring examples of good practice in European countries (publications, studies, articles, research)
- Online educational programs for the professional public (online courses, tutorials)
The implementation of the project takes place from 1 February 2021 to 31 January 2023, the main outputs of the project will be published during 2022.
The key activities are focused on the core lines of development of the field – mapping, data collection and their evaluation in the Czech environment and in the pan-European context, educational events focusing on the essential problems of the field, areas of interest and related topics (copyright, field methodology, film certification, training of experts, lecturers, organizers, work with the audience) and promotion of the field itself towards the professional and lay public.

Mapping the field of film/audiovisual education in Czech primary and secondary schools 2021/22 (Sociological research)
Within the framework of the project Strengthening Film/Audiovisual Education in the Czech Republic, a team of sociologists and experts in the field of film education carried out an extensive survey of Czech primary schools and grammar schools in the school year 2021/22 on the topic of the existence and shape of the educational field of film/audiovisual education. The research, which included a questionnaire survey as well as qualitative research among teachers and possibly school principals, was commissioned by the Association for Film and Audiovisual Education and conducted under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. The final research report was published in May 2022.
The investigation in terms of content and partly also in terms of method was a continuation of the first research Mapping the implementation of the educational field of film/audiovisual education in Czech primary schools and grammar schools from 2016, which was carried out by the team of the Department of Film Studies of the Faculty of Arts of the Charles University for the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic in the school year 2016/2017 and is published on the website of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.

Online film education courses
The film education course is a joint work of the members of the Association of Film and Audiovisual Education. Our aim was to create an online study programme that is accessible to anyone interested in the field of film and audiovisual education and not tied to a specific time and place.
The entire course is divided into 5 interrelated tracks, from which you can choose the ones that fit the focus and needs of the target groups. Each strand provides a basic insight into sub-issues and also offers a survey of additional resources for those interested in deeper study. Taken together, these strands form a comprehensive whole, after which you will gain an orientation to the field and support in the creation of your first film-education programmes.
The individual tutorials are prepared by members of the Film and Audiovisual Education Association. These are institutions and individuals who have been involved in this field for a long time. In our course we have summarized our many years of experience, proven methods and procedures, examples of good practice and recommendations.
The courses also include seminars and webinars Fundamentals of Film Education, which are accredited under the DVPP by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and serve as a methodological guide to the course.
Five thematic areas divided into individual lessons. The lessons are in the form of short videos and texts.
Each of the five strands is supported by methodological tutorials that summarise the basic knowledge of each lesson and help you to implement your own training programmes in your practice.
Each strand is also accompanied by worksheets for pupils/students to use in your teaching.
Supplementary materials – links to other resources, articles, studies, examples from Czech and international practice, etc.
The course (individual lessons and methodological materials) is available to all participants without a time limit. You can join at any time of the year and study at your own pace. Live webinars with the course lecturers will be recorded for later playback.
